About my work
In French, the holy grail of writing is le mot juste. It's essential to find just the right word and use it in artistic, elegant storytelling.
My last name is Shotwell. Apparently my family's ancestors had remarkably good aim. That's what I aspire to do in my writing and promotional work: hit the bullseye every time and make a big impact.
I am a writer, educator, and RVA (Richmond, Virginia) enthusiast. I've loved this city a long time, through all its growing pains, successes, and challenges. I never miss a festival here if there's good food, music, and a diverse crowd. I consider foreign languages a "secret code" which everyone should learn to crack. Thanks to my fluency in French, I've developed enduring friendships in Europe, Haiti, and Africa. I support international businesses coming to Richmond, as well as budding social entrepreneurs, who are often my former students. They will rock this world!
I dabble in acting (voice and stage), cardio classes, and promotion of my literacy project, Little French Books, for children in Haiti and other developing francophone countries (check it out here). Sometimes on a whim, I decorate cakes as a creative outlet and to get my sugar fix.
Life is short - lick the beaters!
